IC chips embedded in admission tickets
A miniature 0.4mm x 0.4mm IC chip is embedded on each admission ticket, in order to provide a unique ID number (identification number) for each admission ticket, and at the same time, it makes ID confirmation easy by simply placing the ticket over a reading device. In the EXPO Eco-Money project, the IC chip function is utilized by collecting EXPO Eco-Money transactions on the database in the ID. The ID with the IC chip is composed of data of 128 binary digits, which is able to create different IDs totaling about 3.4 x 10 to the 38 power. This effectively enables it to create IDs which will not be duplicated in future years.
There is an idea to utilize the used admission tickets as "passports" for Eco-citizens after the EXPO is finished using these absolutely unique IDs in the world.

IC chip reader
Issuing of EXPO Eco-Money requires a reader system which recognizes the IC chips. In this project, the "hybrid communicator" nicknamed "AI-MATE" is employed which will be exhibited at the Japanese government's exhibition programs of Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition. There are two types of AI-MATE: "AI-MATE Orange," with cellular phone and other communications capabilities, and "AI-MATE Blue," with the IC chip reader. The reader systems combining these two types of AI-MATE are placed at the issuing points.
The points that are gained outside the EXPO site such as sticker boards for reduction of plastic shopping bags can be exchanged for points inside the EXPO site using the IC chip readers placed at the EXPO Eco-Money Center inside the EXPO site.

Internet access and publication of the results
You can check the points that you gained through a cellular phone or a PC connected to the Internet and enter the points for the prize competition, for the benefits to yourself or the benefits to society.
The results of the visitors' Eco-activities are also made public on the website based on the amount of issuing of EXPO Eco-Money totaled on the database.
